This 3-story clown is on the side of a building near my house in Santa Monica.
It’s lit up at night, and I think when it was first installed the arms and legs moved….
Yikes.

The Ballerina Clown was fabricated in 1989 out of aluminum, steel, fiberglass and an electric motor that activates the extended kicking leg. This 30-foot tall sculpture was placed high up on a building near Venice Beach in Venice, California. Of course, the Venice Boardwalk is full of all kinds of people in all sorts of outfits and the atmosphere is very festive with many live street performances taking place, especially on weekends. This sculpture is an accommodation or resolution of opposites in one. Not only does this image bring the male and female together into one figure, but also, two opposite types of performers are represented: the formal classical ballet dancer and the traditional street performer. Of course, this public sculpture pushes the envelope in "taste", but if you have ever walked the Venice Boardwalk on a Sunday afternoon, you might understand why this figure is right at home.
Clowning Around – the planning stages

It all started a while back in a plurk. THEN on the Bunny Hop Hunt I was at ‘i love 13‘ (a fabulous store if you have a black sense of humour or like the dark and twisted) … hmmm… where was I? oh yes, ‘i love 13‘ had clown skins. So I got one. I was then chatting to my friend Lanna and she introduced me to Ken Glume’s store where you can find some quite sinister looking clown skins for both males and females (at least 16 of each).
Anyway, this is the three evil Moggs’ busily planning so they can ‘clown around’ with Lanna in Kyoto, a newly developed photographic playground created by Bunny Brickworks. In my amatuer way, I’m going to try to create a picture to dedicate a picture to someone… and maybe help them overcome their fear of clowns. Nope, I can’t tell you who. This is just a happy snap to show off some of my clown skins. Stay tuned for more clowning around which will be whenever Lanna and I manage to get some time together to do it. As a real life friend pointed out, to be really disturbing clown attire is a necessity.
